I mistakenly crushed one-year-old boy with myvehicle – Driver
49-year-old driver, Kazeem Adesokan, who allegedly crushed a one and a half year old with his vehicle at Tinubu Close, Palm Groove, Lagos, has been arraigned before an IkejaMagistrate Court, sitting at Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly driving in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of the baby. The suspect, a driver with a security company, allegedly climbed and killed the baby identified as Abdulrahman Alhaji with the company’s Toyota Hilux van at about 0700hrs on January 21, 2017.According to the prosecution, the offence was contrary to the provisions of Sections 28(1) and 29 (1) Cap 172 Vol 7 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos Nigeria 2011.The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000. The matter was adjourned to MARCH27, 2017.In his statement to the police, he said he had parked the vehicle in a certain position and was trying to re-park it when he observed that he had parked so close to another vehicle to enablehim come out of the van when the incident occurred. “The suspect explained that as he was reversing, he heard people shouting and pointing under his vehicle. He claimed that he stopped immediately, came down, only to see that the vehicle he was driving had crushed a baby. He added that the baby was rushed to a near-by private hospital where he was confirmeddead”, a source familiar with the story quoted him as narrating in the statement.
