Senate to hold confirmation hearing for acting CJN on Wednesday

The senate will conduct a confirmation hearing for Walter Onnoghen, acting chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), on Wednesday. Senate President Bukola Saraki, who announced this on the floor of the upper legislative chamber, on Tuesday, said the exercise would take place at 11am.

Last Tuesday, Saraki read a letter from Acting President Yemi Osinbajo requesting the confirmation of Onnoghen as CJN. Onnoghen has been acting CJN since November 10, 2016 when Mahmud Mohammed, his predecessor, retired.

A controversy had brewed over President Muhammadu Buhari’s delay in sending his name to the senate for confirmation as CJN. But the tension was doused when news that the president had asked the senate to confirm him filtered in. Onnoghen’s tenure as acting CJN was due to elapse on February 10, but it was only two days before the time that the presidency communicated to the upper legislative chamber on his confirmation.

However, the senate could not consider the request because it was on a three-week recess. The National Judicial Council (NJC), which had nominated Onnoghen for the position, re-nominated him on February 9 – a day before the expiration of his three-month tenure. Onnoghen is from Cross River state. He is the only CJN from the south in 30 years.

Allegri wants more intensity from Juventus despite Coppa win

Massimiliano Allegri believes there is still more to come from Juventus, with the coach demanding greater intensity from his side despite the Serie A leaders putting one foot in the Coppa Italia final with Tuesday's 3-1 first-leg defeat of Napoli.

The holders came from behind to take control of the tie, with a pair of controversial Paulo Dybala penalties and a Gonzalo Higuain goal against his old club putting Juve in a dominant position after they recovered from Jose Callejon's superbly crafted opener.

Juve are now in a strong position to win the league and cup double for the third year in a row, but Allegri felt his side were below-par in the first half, when they fell behind to Napoli for the first time at Juventus Stadium, while using a back three.

"In the first half more than having the wrong system, we made too many mistakes in our passing, but nonetheless had plenty of chances and allowed Napoli very little," Allegri told Rai Sport.

"The first half was bad on a technical level, the second was much better. I don't think we played badly with three at the back, we must made too many mistakes in our passing, but it went very well after the break.

"I have to compliment the entire squad, as they played a fine second half and managed to come back despite going a goal down.

"Napoli are always dangerous and we finished the game on a high, so this bodes well for the future. I think we can improve a great deal in terms of intensity.

"I particularly wish to compliment Miralem Pjanic, someone who has really improved."

Napoli were left to lament arguable penalty decisions made by referee Paulo Valeri, with goalkeeper Pepe Reina particularly frustrated by the official's calls, which included a spot-kick against him for bringing down Juan Cuadrado despite getting a touch on the ball.

"We had a good first half, made Juve split apart and did our work," Reina told Rai Sport. "With the second-half incidents, everything changed. The result changed because of the referee's decisions. That is all.

"What am I supposed to do, disappear? If a player gets the ball, he gets the ball, end of story. Are players not supposed to touch the ball anymore? In my view, I moved the ball, so he either had to jump or get out of the way. In my view, people aren't talking enough about the penalty on [Raul] Albiol.

"That incident was definitely more of a penalty than the Cuadrado one. We must certainly learn and improve and play a better second half, but I am absolutely furious. It's not fair. The final result was changed by the refereeing decisions. That is all you can say.

Guti: I hope Barcelona eliminate PSG

Real Madrid great Guti revealed he wanted Barcelona to stage a remarkable comeback to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Luis Enrique's men are on the verge of a last-16 exit, trailing 4-0 on aggregate ahead of the second leg at Camp Nou on March 8.

But Guti, a Madrid great who won five LaLiga titles and three Champions Leagues with the club, hopes to see a comeback.

And the Madrid youth coach would also like to see Barca defender Gerard Pique, outspoken in his criticism of Real, be the hero.

"I want Barcelona to come back against PSG in the Champions League that way they won't be able to focus on LaLiga as much," he told El Chiringuito.

"I want Pique to score the fifth goal because he deserves it, he is the only one facing the situation head on, despite getting criticised by all sides."

Madrid are in control of their Champions League tie after a 3-1 win over Napoli in the first leg.

They are also a point clear of Barcelona atop LaLiga, and have a game in hand.

Keown: I wish Ibrahimovic joined Arsenal

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown still laments Zlatan Ibrahimovic not joining the Premier League club in 2000.

Ibrahimovic, now starring at Manchester United, was once offered a trial by Arsene Wenger, but rejected it as insulting.

Keown, who was at Arsenal at the time and won three league titles with the club, rued the fact the Swede opted against making the move.

"I regret that Zlatan Ibrahimovic never joined Arsenal," he wrote in the Daily Mail.

"He visited the club in 2000 as a teenager and such was his physique and frame my team-mates joked that the Swede was coming to take my place at centre-back.

"Even then you could see Ibrahimovic had such a big presence. Now that he is thriving at Manchester United, the comparisons with Eric Cantona are inevitable."

Ibrahimovic has gone on to enjoy a trophy-laden career at the likes of Inter, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and now United.

The striker led United to an EFL Cup success on Sunday, scoring a brace – including the match-winner – to take his tally to 26 goals in 38 matches in all competitions this season.

Keown said the comparisons to Cantona, a United great in the 1990s, were warranted.

"I man-marked Cantona for England against France and for Everton when he was at Leeds," he wrote.

"Although Cantona was an intelligent player, I never felt he was going to run away from me. When I could lock on to him, I knew I could deal with him.

"In a one-against-one situation Ibrahimovic has more. He is bigger, stronger and more powerful.

"Cantona unlocked the door for United’s success in his five seasons at the club. He will always be considered The King, but Ibrahimovic is helping to rescue United's reputation and make them great again."

CBN Sells $230 Million To 16 Banks, Boosts Financial Market

Sixteen banks shared in the $230 million foreign exchange (forex) mart by the Central Bank of Nigeria through the forward contract agreement.

This forms part of the fulfillment of the apex bank’s pledge to ensure liquidity in the interbank market under the latest policy announced last week.

Of the 16 financial institutions, 13 are commercial banks, one is a development financing establishment, while two are merchant banks.

An analysis of the auction’s participants showed that nine commercial banks and one merchant got $162.85 million at bid rates ranging from N325/$ to N360/$, while six others got $58.52 million at bid rates between N315/$ and N320/$.

However, the first 10 banks with a total request of $162.85 million in the forwards contract have the maturity date of March 27, 2017, while the other six have a maturity date of April 24, 2017.

Consequently, the parallel market strengthened to N460 per dollar, its highest level in more than three months, following the series of interventions by the apex bank.

Last week, the regulator offered $500 million in 60-day forward contract, but ended up selling $370 million, as some banks could not back up their bids with naira equivalent or provisions.

A sub-Saharan economist for RenCap, Yvonne Mhango, said: “There are rays of light in Nigeria’s outlook…foreign reserves have risen over 20 per cent to $29 billion and a more comfortable CBN has this week announced changes to its foreign exchange policy and injected more dollars into the local market. Since Monday (February 20), the parallel market rate has strengthened,” she said.

Research analyst at FXTM, Lukman Otunuga, said that though Monday’s new foreign exchange policy, which made more dollar available for the few at 20 per cent above the official rate is already easing some pressures, it does little to solve the major problem of multiple exchanges.

According to Otunuga, Nigeria’s five adopted exchanges continue to add to the uncertainty with both firms and investors constantly left confused. The bearish combination of depressed oil prices, foreign exchange scarcity and tepid economic fundamentals continue to expose the Nigerian economy to downside risks.

Analysts at Afrinvest said: “In our view, while the implementation of the revised foreign exchange market guideline has been greeted with much optimism, we do not believe this move can sustainably address the lingering foreign exchange liquidity challenges in the economy without relaxing forex rate peg and review of list of items ineligible for forex transactions in the parallel market.”

More Youths To Be Gainfully Employed In 2017 says FG

The Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is laying a solid foundation for the future generation through his leadership style.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Lawal, who spoke at a roundtable with top government officials in Owerri on Saturday, said that by no fewer than one million youth will be gainfully employed by year end.

The SGF was in Owerri on Friday where he was conferred with a Fellowship at the 5th Convocation of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

He said Buhari’s administration was not witch-hunting anybody, but wanted to ensure that impunity and corruption were eradicated in the country.

Lawal said the Federal Government had already engaged over 30,000 youths through its numerous programmes and job creation, adding that one million youths would be gainfully employed before the end of 2017.

He said the president inherited a lot of challenges ranging from insecurity to corruption, adding that the situation needed support and patience to fix the economy.

He said that everybody must join hand to rediscover the nation and to put it back to where it rightfully belong.

He said, “We have commenced a new journey of rapid and sustainable economic growth that will usher us prosperity despite all the challenges.

“Our economy should have been among the strongest in the world if not for the high level of corruption which is more evident in key sectors like education and health care delivery.”

The SGF said the administration had recorded huge success since it started the fight against corruption and had prosecuted many public office holders.

He added that the Whistleblowing policy had helped the administration recovered millions of naira from corrupt Nigerians, adding that the huge sum would be reinvested to boost the economy.

Lawal said that government was aware of the pains Nigerians were passing through. He assured that government was doing everything possible to address it.

“This government has introduced diversification policy and very soon we will begin to witness changes as we have witnessed in rice and wheat production,” he said.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha said that this was not the time for Nigerians to weep or complain in the struggle for nationhood, but a time to comply.

According to him, Nigeria must write the history of this recession, just like other advanced nation did in their own struggle to greatness.

Okorocha further said Buhari’s main job was not to build skyscrapers but to lay a solid foundation for other successors to build.

He said Nigerians should continue to pray for the president as his emergence was divine and the purpose must be fulfilled.

Okrocha also admonished youths to de-emphasize the search for civil service jobs, but to see agriculture as the fastest means to create wealth.

Buhari’s P.A Blasts Dele Momodu For Crediting Osinbajo

Personal Assistant to President Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie, has lampooned Dele Momodu for crediting Acting President Yemi Osinbajo with the improvements in foreign exchange and engagement with the public.

Momodu had praised Osinbajo for charting a new path for the country in his weekly column tagged “Pendulum”.

Onochie, however, disagreed with him, saying “its sad Dele Momodu is clever by half”

On her twitter handle, Lauretta wrote “With a mindset like this, it’s not hard to work out that Dele Momodu is too clever by half. If he does not understand “Team”, how can he understand “Team Spirit”?

“The President and the Acting President have a great understanding of what it means to be a team. They respect, consult and collaborate with each other. Sync”.

Dele Momodu is used to the “Leaders behaving badly” ways of leadership where deputies do not dare breathe without the permission of the Principal.

I have no doubt that Dele Momodu runs his Corruption-friendly business empire that way. He decides alone and imposes on his staff.

The difference between Buhari/Osinbajo and Jonathan/What’s his name, administrations is not only the anti and pro-corruption. One is a team, the other wasn’t.

While Nigerians are applauding the cohesive team spirit that exits between our President and our VP, Dele Momodu is using it to earn his keep from his corrupt friends.

It’s common knowledge that under this administration, all businesses whose foundation was built on corruption, will collapse. Did I hear a loud OVATION?

As an image maker and a friend of the corrupt especially of those who raped our nation, has Dele Momodu stopped to ask where his fees are coming from? Stolen funds?

Dele Momodu must borrow some common sense from some of our youth who are educated and who know the meaning of “Team”. Here’s one from Japheth J Omojuwa.

It’s not lost on Nigerians that Dele Momodu helped to encourage corruption by providing a platform for our corrupt nouveau rich to massage their corrupt ego.

Dele Momodu has taken a stand for corruption. He must now understand that the respect that exists between our two leaders, is stronger than his love for the corrupt.

Nigerians are learning again, that a President can delegate to the Vice so the benefit will go to Nigerians, not just to them.

Dele Momodu can no longer hide his disdain for the war on corruption. But joining accidental Social Media practitioners in this way is to say the least, sickening!

One thing is certain. Nigerians are learning from a credible team that great respect, friendship, collaboration and consultations are possible between workmates”.

Say “No’ To Dele Momodu’s divisive stance. It’s selfish, self-centred and egocentric. He alone, stands to gain. END. Thanks for retweeting”

Stop Praising Osinbajo, Nothing Like ‘Osinbajo Administration’ – APC Group

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Youths Renaissance has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is the head of the current administration.

The group, therefore, warned those referring to the government as ‘Osinbajo administration’ to stop forthwith.

A statement by Collins Edwin, National Secretary, APC Youths Renaissance, noted with dismay the “attempts by some Nigerians and their collaborators in the media to create crisis of confidence and severe the smooth working relationships between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo through unnecessary praises and accolades”.

It said since President Buhari left Nigeria for London in January, prominent Nigerians and organisations had formed the habit of making superficial praises of the successes achieved by the APC-led Federal Government under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, in which Professor Osinbajo is standing-in for him in Acting Capacity.

“We are using this medium to educate these professional merchants of conflicts that there is nothing like Osinbajo Administration in this regime, but the Buhari Administration.

“Hence, whatever successes achieved by anybody, whether by Professor Yemi Osinbajo or any of the Ministers serving under the four-year mandate given to our great party by Nigerians, the credit should go to the Buhari Administration.

“We will henceforth view anyone who still indulge in this balonious habbit of making sycophantic praises and ascribing credits to an individual against the administration as unveiled enemy of the Nigerian people who do not want peace in our leadership”.

We’ve injected over$16bn into Nigerian operations —MTN Group

LAGOS— Despite the challenges arising from the N330 billion fine imposed on it by Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, last year, MTN Group said, yesterday, it had so far injected over $16 billion in its operations in the country.Chairman/Chief Executive of MTN Group,Mr. Phuthuma Freedom Nhleko, disclosed this when he led a high level delegation to NCC headquarters in Abuja.Nhleko, who was received by the Executive Vice Chairman, EVC, of the commission, Prof Umar Danbatta, and his team, said the group had faith in Nigeria and would be willing to invest more in the sector in the years tocome.“We had challenges in the past, during the period of the fine, and weare grateful for the role the commission played towards an amicable resolution,” he said.Nhleko, whose visit to the NCC management was a valedictory one as he steps down as Group Chairman in March, said: “We have a very long way to go and so ask for spectrum which is the oxygen and life blood to navigate this long and tedious investment journey. Without spectrum, the sector will suffocate.”Nhleko specifically solicited more spectrum allocation and a release of the one that belonged to Visafone, which equityshares MTN acquired in 2015.In his response, Prof. Danbatta said: “I like to state that our word is ourcovenant. When we take decisions, we are concerned about the stability of the industry and there is no way we can guarantee it without considering the dominant status of MTN and its obligations.“If the dominant status isbecoming stringent, we are open to engagement,we will be guided by what is happening in the market to ensure the growth and developmentof the sector.“The sector has contributed very well to the National Gross Domestic Product, GDP, and has shown remarkable resilience in this recession.”Danbatta said the NCC made a case for relaxingfiscal policies towards the sector to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, adding that the CBN governor was favorably disposed to request and further engagement, especially towards majorplayers who desired to import equipment to aid deployment of broadband infrastructureservices and others.

Big Brother Naija: Why Reality Show Must Stop Airing Immediately – Group

A group, Nigerian Project for Human Development, NPHD, has joined others voices calling for the termination of popular Reality Show, Big Brother Naija. The group has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, the Presidency and the Nigerian public that the airing Big brother Naija be stopped.Recall that a Lagos lawmaker, Segun Olulade yesterday advised the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on the negative implications of Big Brother Naija on the nation’s cultureand youths. But in a statement by its coordinator, Dr. Mojisola Araba, NPHD claimed that the petition to cancel Big Brother Naija had gathered 10,000 signatures.According to the group, the “Petition has collected 10,000 signatures from concerned Nigerians to cancel the Reality TV Show ‘Big Brother Naija.’”It added, “The on-going TV Reality show, Big Brother Nigeria is indeed a corruption of TV Reality shows.“The Nigerian public is complaining about the moral perversity in the House of the Big Brother Nigeria.“In one episode last two weeks or so, the inmates were shown openly kissing and caressing one another. This is a celebration of obscenity, eroticism and idleness.“More importantly, it is a big mockery of Nigerian culture and tradition. Since the inmates are Nigerians, they should have been projecting the Nigerian cultural heritage. But instead of doing that, they are bastardizing it.“When Endernol, the Dutch, first conceivedthe idea of BBA in 1997, open kissing and caressing by the inmates and celebration of obscenity were never considered by him.“Even the TV Reality shows in other countries do not contain the obscenity we are watching in the on-going Big Brother Nigeria. There is a great danger in importing the destructive foreign lifestyle to Nigeria.“Explicit sexual overtures which appeal to the prurient interest in sex, damages a country’s moral ecology in an analogous way in which oil pollutant damages a country’s ecology.“The biggest tragedy of the on-going Big Brother Nigeria is that our children also glued to the TV screen watching it. Children are our future.“Therefore we should protect them from lewd exposure, which might prevent their growth into free, independent and well-developed citizens.“The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) must live up to its bidding as a bodycharged with controlling, monitoring, regulating the electronic media and monitoring of satellite transmission in Nigeria. Our TV stations cannot become dumping grounds for all sorts of immoral programs.“NBC must stop the airing of Big Brother Nigeria now.”

Mustapha Baba Shehuri who made the disclosure in Ilorin, Kwara state capital said the project which will be achieved under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement has reached an advanced stage in terms of implementation. REVEALED! 9 things to do in your 20s to become a millionaire before 30

At a time when the recession is biting harder than ever, there is nothing great than having to learn on or two secrets ofwealth, especially how to acquire it at anearly age.“In a free-market economy, anyone can make as much money as they want,”emphasizes self-made millionaire Steve Siebold, who has also studied over 1,200 of the world’s wealthiest people. And it’s never too early to start. To help you reach the seven-figure markby 30, we have rounded up 9 important nuggets of advice from people who became millionaires at a young age, as well as those who have studied hundreds of self-made millionaires. That one would become a millionaire cannot be quaranteed, but doing these things won’t hurt your odds.1. Focus on earning“In today’s economic environment you cannot save your way to millionaire status,” writes Grant Cardone, who went from broke and in debt at 21 to self-made millionaire by 30. “The first step is to focus on increasing your income in increments and repeating that.“My income was $3,000 a month and nine years later it was $20,000 a month. Start following the money, and it will force you to control revenue and see opportunities.”Earning more money is often easier saidthan done, but most people have options. Read about 50 ways to bring in additional income, some high-paying jobs you can do on the side, how you can earn passive income, and the first step to take before starting any business, from an entrepreneur who earns up to $170,000 a month.2. Develop multiple streams of incomeOne way to earn more is to increase your streams of income. In author Thomas C. Corley’s five-year study of self-made millionaires, he found that many of them develop multiple streams of income: 65% had three streams, 45% had four streams, and 29% had five or more streams. These additional streamsinclude real-estate rentals, stock market investments, and part-ownership in a side business.“Three streams of income seems to be the magic number for the self-made millionaires in my Rich Habits study, butthe more income streams you can create in life, the more secure will your financial house be,”he writes.3. Save to invest, don’t save to saveWrites Cardone:“The only reason to save money is to invest it. Put your saved money into secured, sacred (untouchable) accounts. Never use theseaccounts for anything, not even an emergency. This will force you to continue to follow step one (increase income). To this day, at least twice a year, I am broke because I always investmy surpluses into ventures I cannot access.”Investing is not as complicated or daunting as we make it out to be. The simplest starting point is to contribute toyour 401(k) if your employer offers one, and take full advantage of your company’s 401(k) match program — which is essentially free money — if it has one.Next, consider contributing money toward a Roth IRA or traditional IRA, individual retirement accounts with different contribution limits and tax structures — which one you can use depends on your income. If you still have money left over, you can research low-cost index funds, which Warren Buffett recommends, and look into the online-investment platforms known as “robo-advisers.”The key to consistently setting aside money is to make it automatic. That way, you’ll never even see the money you’re contributing and you’ll learn to live without it.4. Don’t show off — show up“I didn’t buy my first luxury watch or car until my businesses and investments were producing multiple secure flows of income,” writes Cardone. “I was still driving a Toyota Camry when I had become a millionaire. Be known for yourwork ethic, not the trinkets that you buy.”Need inspiration to save more and spend less? Read up on tips and strategies from regular people who saved enough of their incomes to retire before 40.5. Change your mindset about money“Getting rich begins with the way you think and what you believe about making money,”self-made millionaire Steve Siebold explains. At the end of the day,“The secret has always been the same: thinking,” he emphasizes. While the masses believe becoming wealthy is out of their control, rich people know that making money is really an inside job.”6. Invest in yourself“The safest investment I’ve ever made isin my future,”writes Tucker Hughes, who became a millionaire at 22.“Read at least 30 minutes a day, listen to relevant podcasts while driving and seekout mentors vigorously. You don’t just need to be a master in your field, you need to be a well-rounded genius capable of talking about any subject whether it is financial, political or sports related. Consume knowledge like air andput your pursuit of learning above all else.”Many modern-day successful and wealthy people are voracious readers. Take Warren Buffett, for example, who estimates that 80% of his working day isdedicated to reading.7. Set goals and visualize achieving themIf you want to make more money, you have to have a clear goal and then a specific plan for how to achieve that goal. Money won’t just appear — you have to work at it.Rich people choose to commit to attaining wealth. It takes focus, courage, knowledge, and a lot of effort, self-made millionaire T. Harv Eker emphasizes, and it’s possible if you have precise goals and a clear vision:“The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want. Rich people are totally clear that they want wealth.”8. Hang out with people you admireAndrew Carnegie, who started with nothing before becoming the richest man in the US, credits all of his riches toone principle: the Master Mind. The idea is to surround yourself with talented people who share your vision, because the alignment of several smart and creative minds is exponentially more powerful than just one.Plus, we become like the people we associate with, which is why the rich tend to associate with others who are rich.“In most cases, your net worth mirrors the level of your closest friends,”explains Siebold.“Exposure to people who are more successful than you are has the potential to expand your thinking and catapult your income. The reality is, millionaires think differently from the middle class about money, andthere’s much to be gained by being in their presence.”9. Shoot for $10m, not $1m“The single biggest financial mistake I’ve made was not thinking big enough,”writes Cardone.“I encourage you to go for more than a million. There is no shortage of money on this planet, only a shortage of people thinking big enough.”Source: Business Insider.

Update: Don’t expect me back any time soon, says Buhari to Nigerians

ABUJA-President Mohammadu Buhari has said that he needed a longer period of time to rest in London, United Kingdom where he had gone on medical vacation. The import of this is that the president should not be expected back to Nigeria any time soon. The president said the need to further rest in London was necessitated by the series of medical tests he had run.He however expressed gratitude to Nigerians who have been praying for him, saying that therewas no cause for alarm. The president’s appreciation was contained in a brief statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina. The statement read thus:“President Muhammadu Buhari thanks millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country.“The President is immensely grateful for the prayers, show of loveand concern.“President Buhari wishesto reassure Nigerians that there is no cause forworry.“During his normal annual checkup, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned.”Meanwhile, jolted by the statement, State House correspondent later sought more clarificationfrom Adesina on the state of health of the President. The interview which heldat the Old Banquet Hall, Abuja, after a meeting onPromoting Effective Policy Monitoring and Evaluating and Performance of Ministers, Department and Agencies in the implementation of the 2016 Budget of Change organized by the Ministryof Budget and National Planning went thus:Journalists: Tell us more on the Statement you issued?Adesina: “The President wants Nigerians to know that he appreciates their prayers. He appreciates their concerns and their goodwill. He has added that there is really no cause to worry. He is theone who owns the body and there is nobody who will know his body more than him and he says no cause to worry. It makes sense to say that maybe from the results of the tests, further rest had been recommended. Thestatement did not say how long the rest will last.“I speak for somebody, I do not speak for myself. So it is what he tells me to say that I say and the statement transmitted tome is that the President needs to rest for some further time.Journalists: Any possibility that he will speak to Nigerians directly?Adesina: What he has just done is to speak to Nigerians.Journalists: What is actually wrong with the President?Adesina: Don’t you know that the Hippocratic Oatheven forbids a doctor from speaking about the condition of his patient except the patient authorizes it? It is only the patient himself who can speak about what heis going through. This is the person going throughthese series of tests and rest and he says no cause to worry, let us believe that.Journalists: Why have they been harassing Journalists who have been trying to reach the President in UK?Adesina: I do not consider that an harassment. Presidents are not hijacked and interviewed. Those things are scheduled. So,I do not consider that as harassment.Journalists: Confirm the reports that he may remain there for monthsAdesina: What we have just said is what I will want us to believe. The President said he needs to rest further. The samePresident that communicated that to us, when it is time for him to come, he will also communicate to us.Journalists: There are claims that the Presidenthas lost his voice.Adesina: Those people need to prove it. He spoke with President Trump. Did Trump say he did not speak with Nigerian President. Anybody can allege anything.Journalists: What would you tell Nigerians really?Adesina: My message to Nigerians is that let us learn to believe our leaders. This is a man we elected into office and he says no cause to worry, let us believe him.Recall that the President left Nigeria for London on January 19, 2017.He was due to return after 10 official days but at the expiration of the period, he wrote to the National Assembly, extending his medical vacation indefinitely. The continued stay of the president has however brewed controversy, dividing Nigerians in many respects.

"He's always played out on the flank," Zidane said."That's his natural position. I'm sure he will score goals. He can play in a variety of positions because he's an outstanding player. But he prefers playing out on the wing. That's wherehe's scored 300, 400 goals?," he added, prompting laughter among the watching media. The Frenchman also flagged the possibility that Ronaldo will be restedat times during the final months of the season, as Madrid challenge for both domestic and Champions League honours."I think it was a cup game if I'm not mistaken," he said of Ronaldo's previous unforced absence."And I'm pretty sure there'll be another game or two when he'll be rested. It is in this regard, that we welcome the recent announcement of the Hon Minister of State, Petroleum, of the unveiling of a 20-point agenda aimed at instituting permanent peace in the oil-producing region.”Meanwhile, a group of militant groups known as the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC)has told Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson to apologiseto Ijaw woman activist Annkio Briggs or face their anger.JRC accused Dickson of being behind an alleged assault on Briggs after she and others were attacked by hoodlums during a recent peaceful protest in Yenagoa, capital of the oil-rich south-south state a week ago over the allocation of 1, 200 hectares of land to Fulani herdsmen for cattle grazing.

Presidency: There is a cabal but I am not part of it- Nasir El-Rufai says

Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, says that he is aware of a cabal in the presidency in Abuja but he is not part of those in it. He denied claims of been part of the cabal when he spoke to some editors in Lagos over the weekend. He says although he is very close to President Buhari, he is not part of the decision makers at the Federal level.

"It is not correct to say I am part of those that influence things in the Villa. Am I very close to Buhari? Yes. I worked very closely with him in the CPC (Congress for Progressive Change) when everyone had given up on him. I know him, I know how he thinks and he trusts me. He knows that I am driven by public interest. Do I participate in federal decision making? I don’t. I am too busy addressing Kaduna problems to be part of it. When I am called for an opinion or when I happen to be around, and I have an input or if I see something going seriously wrong; I drive and go and see Mr. President I have heard A, B, C, D. I don’t think it is not right, you should consider doing C, D, E. I do that and I drive back to Kaduna.

My primary assignment is Kaduna. I am not involved in the Federal Government. People like to say and attribute so much to me, and sometimes it is good for me, it gives me a larger than life image. Is there a cabal? There is always a cabal. Even in your own newspaper houses, there is a cabal. Nobody can run an institution without a coterie of two, three, four trusted people. There is always a cabal; the issue is whether it is a positive or a disruptive cabal. Am I a member of the cabal? No, I am governor of Kaduna state; I work for Kaduna state 24/7.

Hilarious! MORNING JOKE!

I was eating Amala and enjoying my drinkaround 4pm, a man entered the restaurantwith a brief case. I guess he was a big politician bcos his dressing and pot belly portrays it.He walked and sat down as everybody looked at him. Suddenly a woman came tohim and started crying. The woman knelt down and told him that her children and herself want to die of hunger since her husband died. This man opened the brief case and gave dis woman N500,000. The woman jumped up and left the scene in happiness.I was still watching when another man started crying and came to him. He knelt down and begged him that he needed money to establish his bizness. This man brought out N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira Cheque) and he gave this man. This time, I started murmuring and practicing on the lie I would blow to have my own national cake. I started crying andwent to the man. Immediately I knelt down, I heard “Cut!! Cut!! Cut!!”. I turned and saw the director of the movie. He laughed and said “oh boy na movie we dey shoot here” ooHahahahahah shame wan kill me. Chaii!!Economy recession no go kill person lol.…😷😷

UNILORIN: Rejected 711candidates paraded fakeresults— VC

ILORIN—VICE Chancellor of University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, weekend explained why the university refused admission to 711 candidates after collecting their money, saying they uploaded excellent results, which the authorities later discovered during screening to be fake.UNILORIN VC, Prof. AbdulGaniyu AmbaliIt was reported that management of the university had offered admission to no fewer than 2,000 candidates and afterwards withdrewthe admission from the candidates.Speaking with reporters, Professor Ambali said: “The issue of people trying to say we collected their money and refused to offer them admission is uncalled for. They wasted our time. In any civilized society those people should be prosecuted. That is examinations malpractice. If those people are using fraudulent means to come in, you can imagine what they will dowhen they become our students fully. But we thought they were youngpeople, we say they should learn by losing the opportunity. They can reapply. We thought they had to be taught a lesson and that was why we kept quiet.“They are just trying to portray the university negatively. You know theuniversity has come a long way. For the last three years we have been the most patronized university with over 100,000 applicants wanting to come and join us.”

My salary as lecturer was more than RCCG’s income — Adeboye

GENERALOverseer of The Redeemed ChristianChurch of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, who presides over a global church withmembers in about 198 nations of the world, at the weekend, described his early years as the General Overseer of the mission as turbulent, saying the church’s total income then was about half of his salary as university lecturer.Ministering during a three-day special programme to end the church’s 40-day fasting and prayer period at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Pastor Adeboye shockedthe worshippers when hedeclared that the church’s total income when he took over its leadership was less than his pay.Pastor AdeboyeHis words: “When God called me into full time ministry, I must tell you the truth, I was afraid because things were rough. I knew poverty when I was young but I became a university teacher with the belief that my days of poverty were gone.“When God asked me to leave my job to become a full-time pastor, the total income of the church was less than mysalary and we were to share it among some 39 people.‘’I was really afraid but God gave me one promise. He said do not worry my son, I will be with you. If you are wondering why my case is different, it is because God told me that He will be with me and He has been faithful to His promise.”He also narrated some unpalatable experiences he had in repositioning the church. All parishes of mission, yesterday celebrated theend of the 40-day fastingand prayer which commenced on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Chelsea draw Man Utd in FA Cup quarter-finals while Lincoln could face Arsenal

Jose Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge to face Antonio Conte's table-toppers, while there could be an all-non-league quarter-finalChelsea have been drawn at home to Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup.The Portuguese will return to Stamford Bridge for the second time since leaving the west London club as he looks to replicate Louis van Gaal's success with the Red Devils last season.Elsewhere, non-league Lincoln City were handed a potential trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal, should Arsene Wenger's side put out Sutton United on Monday evening.Should Sutton beat the Premier League club, however, it would guarantee a non-league club in the semi-final stage of the competition.Tottenham will host London rivals Millwall, having beaten Fulham on Sunday thanks to a Harry Kane hat-trick, while Middlesbrough will welcome either Huddersfield or Manchester City.Pep Guardiola's team could only draw with David Wagner's Championship side on Saturday, despite the Terriers fielding a weakened XI as they continue their bid to reach the Premier League.

45-yr-old driver rapes 80-yr-old woman in Ekiti

An Ado Ekiti High Court on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old commercial driver, Lawrence Adedapo, to seven years imprisonment for raping an 80-year-old woman, Madam Grace Asaolu. The sentence on Adedapo has brought to five the number of persons convicted for the offence in the last two years in the area with one of them bagging life sentence. Before his sentence on Monday, the Presiding Justice Dele Omotoso said he convicted Adedapo based on evidence before the court which showed that the driver forcefully had carnal knowledge of the old woman and was guilty as charged.According to the court, the convict sexually assaulted the octogenarian on Nov. 7, 2013 at Oke Erimope Street, Ogbese, Ise-Ekiti and was subsequently charged to court. In the course of the trial, Adedapo was said to have pleaded not guilty to the charge and gave evidence in his own defence, but called no witness to back his claims. In his testimony, Adedapo, who described the old woman as his “mother as well as his concubine” whom he had been dating as far back as his bachelor days, claimed that Asaolu framed him up.He claimed that the old woman had earlier approached him for a sum of money to travel to her village, but on that date, she walked into his room and demanded for the money. The driver claimed that the old woman started romancing him which eventually led to a sexualintercourse after he had given her N1,000.The prosecution, led by the Attorney General andCommissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, gave evidence that the convict confessed to have been dating the woman before the incident and that she consented to the sexual intercourse.Ajayi tendered the blood-stained clothes of the victim which was recovered from the scene of the incident. The trial judge resolved all issues in determination against Adedapo and consequently sentenced him to a jail term of seven years for having unlawful carnal knowledge of the old woman.

SAD NEWS For Nigerians!! Buhari Is Death: The Worst Has Happened. Aisha Buhari Weeps Bitterly – Live on CNN

Recall that On Thursday, January 19, Buhari departed Abuja to the United Kingdom on a 10-day vacation during which he would undergo routine medical check-ups.
His trip and absence from the country has been trailed by controversy. There has been speculation that the president is sick and some even went as far as saying he was dead but all these reports have been debunked by the presidency.

The only time we heard about her was when she travelled to see her husband in the United Kingdom and photos were released as proof. But, Nigerians are not buying it as some have claimed it is photoshopped.

Aisha has also not been active on social media. Her last post on Facebook was on February 4 about world cancer day. On Twitter, it was on January 27 when she retweeted about making the people of Kogi State beneficiaries of free screening programme.

Her silence on this matter is deafening and some Nigerians are wondering why she has chosen to stay mute

Anambra Election: We Are Not Supporting Any Candidate - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Saturday declared that it had no interest in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

The group said they were aware of the efforts by some politicians trying to drag its name into Nigerian politics.

IPOB in a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, said they remained committed to the leadership of its founder, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom he described as their prophet.

According to him, IPOB was not interested in any political party and would in no way support any politician in Nigeria.

The statement reads:

“IPOB and its leadership worldwide warn those involving IPOB under the command and leadership structure of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with the forthcoming electioneering politics of Anambra State under the constitution of Nigeria should desist from doing so forthwith.

We have observed with alarming dismay how some shamelessly unscrupulous individuals are trying desperately hard to tag our revered name IPOB to their nonsensical party politics in Nigeria.

The public is hereby warned to stay away from such groups and individuals because such adventure have always ended in shame. IPOB is not and can never be part of any electioneering in the Luggardian contraption we have come to know as Nigeria. Anybody telling you IPOB is supporting any political party is a deceiver and should be stone.

IPOB under the leadership of the prophet of our time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are not part of these treacherous anti-Biafra meetings going on in the homes of some washed out politicians and can never be part of it.

We are not in the business of campaigning for the restructure of Nigeria, we are 100% focused on the puritanical pursuit of the restoration and liberation of Biafra from tyranny. We cannot be part of those who are claiming to be IPOB in whatever customary guise or assumed elders who have spent their whole lives serving Hausa Fulani interests.

They have achieved nothing in their lifetime towards the liberation of our people worth referencing. They have continued to shamelessly tag IPOB to their myriad of names in the hope of misleading our people into following them into their evil Nigerian politics.

The Elders Council established by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been dissolved since 2014 when it was discovered these ‘elders’ were campaigning for the same Buhari and his APC to take over Biafraland.

We stopped them then and we shall stop them now no matter the party they intend to use to achieve their satanic purpose disguised as patriotism for Biafra.

These criminals dancing from one project of shame to another have been using the revered name of IPOB to dupe desperate politicians. First these criminals said Biafra will come by legal method. When that failed, they said it would come through diplomatic means.

Now that their much vaunted diplomatic approach has fallen flat, they have opted for what they call political process. This is their last ditch desperate attempt to immerse themselves in the sell-out politics of Nigeria. We IPOB say we are not part of it.

Therefore, we would like to warn again that the name IPOB is hallowed and cannot be involved with Nigeria politics.

IPOB family members worldwide are not politicians but freedom fighters diligently pursuing the restoration of ancient nation of Biafra with truth and honesty. We are not going to derail from this divine pursuit of liberating our people from the shackles of bondage and slavery from Nigeria come what may.‎”

Aso Rock Boils As 36 Governors Take Deadly Decision Over Buhari’s Continuous 'Hide And Seek Game' In London

The Nigeria Governors Forum, has agreed to send some Governors to the United Kingdom, UK, to visit President Muhammadu Buhari, except the President returns home between now and next week.

An impeccable source, disclosed that the decision was taken at the last Governors’ meeting, in Abuja.

Recall, that Buhari had a few weeks ago, written to the Senate to inform the Legislators, that he would proceed on medical vacation for 10 working days, and that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, would act on his behalf as President, during his absence.

The President however, was expected to resume work on Monday, February 6, 2017, but he again wrote a letter to the National Assembly a day before, informing the Lawmakers that he needed to extend his leave, in order to complete and get the results of some tests recommended by his Doctors.

On the Governors’ visit to the UK, the source said: “We will visit the President, if he doesn’t come back in the next one week. We decided to do this, after the Leaders of the National Assembly, led by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, visited the President.

Wenger hints at staying in management for at least four more years

The Arsenal manager noted that Sir Alex Ferguson did not retire untilage 71 and, at 67, says he remains as hungry as ever to continueArsene Wenger has suggested he could stay in management for at least four more years after noting that Sir Alex Ferguson did not quit Manchester United until age 71.'Wenger will have big job lined up'The Arsenal manager is 67 and says he is as hungry as ever to be in the dugout despite the Gunners' 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week.Ferguson has pursued other interestssuch as horse racing since retiring and Wenger believes he had "had enough" by the time he ended his coaching career. The Frenchman, on the other hand, insists he has not yet reached that point and will continue until he feels differently - adding that he hopes he will be able to do so at Arsenal."Ferguson has some other interests in life and he was older [when he retired] than I am today," Wenger told reporters. "He was four years older. He retired at 71 and I’m 67."When asked if he planned to carry on for four more years to match his old rival, he replied: "Maybe more, maybeless, I don’t know. Everybody is different."I do not want to take anything away from Ferguson, he was an absolutely unbelievable manager, but he had enough. He had enough. And I’m not at that stage."Wenger denied thathis admission that he would be managing next seasonwhether he remained at Arsenal or not was any kind of veiled threat to the club."No, it’s not a threat, not at all," he added. "My preference is always to manage Arsenal and I have shown that."Ozil a scapegoat for Arsenal crisisThe three-time Premier League champion acknowledged, however, that he would have to consider whether he felt wanted at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the campaign."I am adult enough to analyse the situation," he said.

'How I almost got kidnapped after collecting a flyer in Lagos'

Mrs Ronke Kehinde, a style editor with the defunct Compass newspaper, has recounted her experience on how she was almost kidnapped with a flyer. In an interview with Tribune, she recounted how she collected a lethal flyer innocently in broad daylight on the streets of Lagos and she was almost kidnapped after that. All thanks to her faulty car air-conditioner!Mrs Ronke KehindeRead her experience below:"I was coming from Computer village, Ikeja last week Wednesday, driving towards Ikeja General Hospital. There was a traffic hold-up due to the traffic light under the bridge that was on red at the time. Then, a lady appeared from theblues with flyers in her hand. She was by the passenger’s window, but her hands were already inside my car, holding the flyer to my face. It was property sales flyer. I wasn’t interested, but I took it, because I wanted her to go so I could drive on. At this time, the traffic light had turned green. I took the flyer from her and dropped it on the seatbeside me. As soon as I moved, I noticed something strange. I was feelingsome sensation in my eyes.PAY ATTENTION:Get all the latest gossips on OLAXALI SUPER App"They were peppery. I looked at the flyer suspiciously and quickly threw it on the floor of the car, because I wasn’t sure if what I was feeling was as a result of the flyer or where I was at that time. I took the roundabout turning beside LASUTH, then connected the flyover near Awolowo House on Oba Akran Road. AsI continued to drive, I was feeling so dizzy and uncomfortable. My eyes were getting unbearably peppery. Curiously, as I was getting close to Guinness, I noticed a light brown car following me. There were three men in the car. Anytime they got to my side, in the traffic, they would all look at me intensely."It was at this point I realised somethingwas wrong. It was then I started suspecting a set up. I stuck my head outside the window while driving, so I could get fresh air because I was actually choking."I suspected that those guys were expecting to see an unconscious woman. The lady that gave me the flyer must be working with them. When they noticed that I was fully conscious because I was looking at them, they stopped following me."On her advice to the public, she said:"I will say people should not read the flyers given to them on the road immediately. If it is folded flyers, they should not open it. They should wait till they get to a safe place before they openit. Some police officers called to rejoice with us, and they offered some security tips to apply in such dangerous situation."One of them said the best thing to do is to drive to the nearest police station when you are being followed. He said when they see you driving towards the station they will know that this is a bad market. They also advised that if you already have a suspected flyer or card inyour car, please don’t put on the air conditioner of your car. Put down the windows of your car to give room for cross ventilation. If my A/C had not been faulty, maybe the story would havebeen different."
