THE 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, paraded six people suspected to be involved in the murder of the Commandant of Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, Colonel Anthony Okeyim in December 2016.
The 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, yesterday, said the killing, last December, of Colonel Anthony Okeyim, Commandant, Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, was masterminded by a student, who was expelled over theft.
The revelation was made, yesterday, when the Division paraded six suspects arrested in connection with the Commandant’s death.
The lifeless body of Okeyim was found at the premises of the school on December 12, 2016.
The command had earlier informed the public that the late Okeyim died as a result of rise in intracranial pressure from intracranial haemorrhage caused by fracture of the skull.
The six suspected student who allegedly killed Ibadan Commandant paraded before newsmen in Ibadan, yesterday.
Presenting the suspects to newsmen, Colonel Timothy Antigha, Deputy Director, Public Relations, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, said that investigation conducted showed that the suspects played varying roles in the killing of Okeyim.
Antigha said that the alleged killer of the senior officer stole his Samsung X4 phone and this helped in arresting the suspects.
He said that the suspects went to the Command Secondary School, Apata, with their Toyota Camry car to kill the officer in his house.
Antigha said that one of the suspects was a student of the school, who was expelled earlier by the school authorities over alleged theft, who gave the other suspects the logistics, leading to the death of the senior officer.
Antigha said that the Army was able to arrest the suspects with active collaboration of the Oyo State Police Command and Department of State Services, DSS.
According to him, “on behalf of the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Chukwunedum Abraham, I thank the Nigeria Police and DSS, Oyo State Command, for their support.
“Without the support, very little progress would have been made in unearthing the circumstances surrounding the death of the late senior officer.”
The arrested suspects included:
Solomon Agada Emmanuel (20), Bibisoye Kehinde a.k.a. Efrebor (27), Ewere Andrew (25), Ephraim Obi (38) and Udobata Onusa-Uze a.k.a Kaka (28).
Briefing journalists on the development at the headquarters of the 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Colonel Timothy Antigha, said that the six suspects, including a former student of the school, were believed to have played varying roles in the killing of the late senior military officer in his residence.
Giving details of the Army’s discovery, Colonel Antigha said that on the day the late Commandant was killed, his handset, a Samsung S4, was stolen, but in the course of investigation, it was found in the possession of one of the suspects, Taiwo Adeniyi, who admitted that on the night of December 11, 2016, he and other suspects went to Command Secondary School, Bode Igbo, in an ash-colour Toyota Camry car belonging to one of the suspects, where the Colonel Okeyim was killed.
While thanking the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services for their support in the investigation, the Commander, Military Police, Colonel Abdullahi Ibrahim, said the suspects would be handed over to the Oyo State Police Command for prosecution
